Last week, Samsung announced that it would merge Samsung Pass and Samsung Pay into a single app. Today, the South Korean firm has relaunched the Samsung Wallet app. It blends features of Samsung Pass and Samsung Pay and adds some more features on top of them.

If you can remember, Samsung had a Wallet app close to a decade ago and had a similar feature set, but it lacked NFC transactions and even payments integration.

The Samsung Wallet app can store boarding passes, credit cards, cryptocurrencies, debit cards, digital keys, identification cards, login passwords, loyalty cards, and membership cards. The app is currently available in six countries—France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the UK, and the US—and support for more countries will be added soon. Users in these countries can open the Samsung Pay app and follow the in-app prompts to update it to Samsung Wallet through Galaxy Store.

Thanks to the integration of SmartThings Home, the Samsung Wallet app also supports digital automobile keys for select BMW, Genesis, and Hyundai cars. Users can lock and unlock their cars, start the engine, and share their digital keys with friends or family members. South Korean airlines will soon begin supporting boarding passes.

All this information will be securely stored on supported Galaxy smartphones, thanks to defense-grade security provided by Samsung Knox. Samsung Wallet will compete with Google Wallet, which was unveiled during Google I/O 2022, and Apple Wallet.

Jeanie Han, EVP and Head of Digital Life, MX Business at Samsung Electronics, said, “Samsung Wallet is bringing a new level of everyday convenience to mobile devices with a totally safe and secure environment for storing digital keys, cards, and more. As part of our ongoing commitment to open ecosystems, we will continue to expand on the capabilities of Samsung Wallet by working closely with our trusted partners and developers.”
